Leadership Author | Speaker | Director of Carnegie Mellon Women's Executive Leadership Academy

Leanne Meyer

Leanne Meyer directs the Carnegie Mellon Women’s Executive Leadership Academy and is the former executive director of the university’s Accelerate Leadership Center at the Tepper School of Business.

Leanne is making a difference for professionals across the world. Her coaching brings a fresh, global perspective earned from working with countless clients across myriad industries. Her message is designed to resonate with any professional, though her specialty has focused on empowering women to navigate complex work environments for significant career advancement.

“Workplaces are complex environments with many different personalities and relationships, and it’s important to remember that company values on a page don’t make a culture,” Leanne warns. “We have all heard the many corporate statements of ‘Here we believe …’ but the ‘we’ rarely includes everyone. It ignores the fact that unconscious bias exists, and fails to honor the many choices women want to make, personally and professionally.”

Working through such environments can feel daunting, but Leanne’s hope is that women who embrace her recommendations will walk away with a sense of calmness, balance, and inspiration.

With more than thirty years of senior-level and executive development in The United States, England, Ireland and South Africa, Leanne brings finely-honed expertise to bear with each new client. Leaders from some of the most recognizable brands across the world including Salesforce, GlaxoSmithKline, McKesson, Alcoa, Bayer, SAP, the American Bar Association, UBS, EQT, Highmark, and UPMC consistently turn to Leanne for expertise, guidance and mentorship.

She earned her Master’s in Industrial Psychology from the University of Johannesburg.

Areas of Focus

Strategic Agility
Today’s business environment is no longer described as having an “ebb and flow”, but rather a permanent “whitewater” condition, and the past two years have demonstrated this churning environment acutely. This increased speed of change has caused a movement from discrete-event strategic planning to more dynamic business planning. However, many organizations struggle with the ability to stay nimble to respond to rapid market changes because of a variety of factors. This session explores the common barriers to agility, provides tools to overcome these barriers, and describes best practices in building adaptability in the implementation of strategic business plans.   Empirical data and anecdotal evidence are used to illustrate the key learnings.

Authentic Leadership
The theory of “authentic leadership” has become well-known in the business community in the last decade, with many studies demonstrating the benefits of adopting a more authentic, servant-leader approach.    This session explores the characteristics and behaviors associated with authentic leadership.  Specifically, participants consider their own business plans as a basis for evaluating the need for an authentic leader mindset in successfully implementing those plans.  In addition, there is particular emphasis on how an authentic leader can manage uncertainty more effectively and build strategic agility in the organization. Participants develop individual leadership commitments, whether as individual contributors or as managers within their organizations.

Building Your Personal Brand
Take charge of your perception as a leader and agent for change in the industry. Define your brand and apply a consistent look, message, and sense of presence.

Workforce and Customers of the Future
Understand demographic shifts and the impact on our workforce and customers of the future.

Are you…

  • A current or future female leader in your organization?
  • Ready to take your business to the next level?
  • Committed to your own personal development
