This inside look into the front lines of a historic cyber-attack is provided by the Cyber COPE® Insurance Certification℠ instructional team. It offers a preview of the content and faculty access available to insurance professionals who engage in this premier designation program.

Webinar Summary

In May 2014, the U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) announced indictments against five Chinese military officials, accusing them of hacking and economic espionage operations. The charges allege that as officers in Unit 61398 of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) they targeted organizations in the U.S. nuclear power, metals and solar products industries, known as APT 1. At the time, these indictments represented the first ever charges against known state actors for infiltrating U.S. commercial targets by cyber means. Although the indictments received worldwide attention, not many people have heard the actual, behind the scenes stories of how these cyber incidents unfolded in the target organizations.

This webinar will be delivered by Alan Levine, the former CISO of Alcoa, whose company was a main target of the Chinese PLA and instrumental in supporting the USDOJ in the indictment process. Alan will provide you the behind the scenes story of how the incident unfolded, how it impacted the company, and why having trusted cyber security advisors is crucial for CISOs when cyber incidents happen and in preparing to avoid them.

Alan Levine serves as an instructor for Chubb and Carnegie Mellon University’s Cyber COPE® Insurance Certification℠ (CCIC). The CCIC program provides Chubb agents and brokers with an understanding of industry best practices in cyber security risk management, governance and operations. Applications for the 2019 cohort, which launches in July, are now being accepted.
