Summary

In a recent survey of independent insurance agencies, 72% of employees agree that generational differences pose challenges in the workplace. Agencies are experiencing those differences in ways that include:

  • Difficulty attracting and retaining young talent
  • Young professionals with high potential not achieving that potential
  • Younger employees that seem to need more structure, direction and support and managers that are not sure how to provide it.

As more and more Millennials (those born roughly between 1982 and 2004) enter the workforce, generational differences will become a bigger issue for the insurance industry. Millennials have different needs and expectations but they also bring new ideas and skills and the potential to be top performers. Agencies that understand and engage them will be best positioned to tap into their talent. However, managers are perplexed about how to effectively coach Millennials and that has an effect on productivity, and in the long-term, on perpetuation.

Chubb is pleased to present this unique 1 ½ day workshop that will help you better understand Millennials and how to attract, retain and energize them. You will learn skills and tools to effectively coach the Millennials to:

  • Increase productivity
  • Improve engagement
  • Reduce turnover

Additional Info

What will I learn in this program?
A Manager’s Guide to Coaching Millennials presents the seven core traits of Millennials, the recommended actions and tactics to leverage those traits, and four key coaching styles matched to the Millennial traits. Millennials are different from other generations – they have a different communication style and therefore respond better to some coaching techniques over others. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have developed an action plan to optimize coaching techniques in order to increase sales production.

Why are Millennials different than other producers?
Millennials, born between 1982 – 2004, grew up in a different time than the two previous generations (Boomers and Generation X). Older generations have given Millennials the sense that they are, collectively, vital to the nation and to their parents’ sense of purpose. More than the generations that came before, Millennials have grown up feeling wanted and important. Millennials are team-oriented technology natives that tend to be achievement-oriented and they have differing outlook on sales and management. Coaching them requires a nuanced approach to get the most out of them.

What do I need to do to prepare?
To prepare for the workshop, participants must complete an online Coaching Style Assessment. After completion of the short assessment, a full report of your coaching style will be generated, which you can take with you to the workshop. Secondly, you should have in mind a millennial that you are or will be coaching. Consider what might be challenges for coaching them.
