Webinar Summary

Wildland fire has evolved to be an item of greater concern for the communities and businesses that reside within them as the wildfire season is growing longer and starting earlier each year. In part due to climate change, wildfires are growing in intensity and scale, particularly in the western United States.

Traditional wildfire mitigation tactics include utilization of noncombustible construction materials, regular brush clearing, and noncombustible planting in landscape design, however recent research & technology has resulted in additional methods for hardening buildings against the wildfire threat. This webinar is designed to raise the awareness of the threat that wildfire presents and the methods that can be employed to harden structures against the threat, while considering the importance of site and vegetation management in maintaining defensible spaces. The session will review some of the risk management practices and resources that property owners and risk managers can employ to better protect their structures from the threat of wildfire in constructing a Wildland Fire Emergency Response Plan.
