Webinar Summary

Even though slips and falls are one of the most preventable injury types, they remain one of the leading sources of injuries both at home and work. According to The National Safety Council 2019 Injury Facts, 880 workers died in falls. While the use of a tribometer (slipmeter) allows us to quantify how a walking surface performs specific to the measurement of traction, does the slip resistance value provide us with the confidence needed to manage the hazards effectively?

This discussion will share a perspective on utilizing a risk management assessment process to help quantify some of the uncertainties associated with managing slip and fall exposures in conjunction with the use of tribometry. The speakers will provide their perspective on how they have utilized the assessment process combined with tribometry in helping their customer effectively manage slip and fall exposures. The value of a 0.50 slip resistance index has been widely accepted within the industry as providing a minimum threshold of safety, but does it provide you with a complete perspective to measure and mitigate slips and falls? This presentation is not designed to discuss the science of tribometry, but instead take a more holistic approach to slip and fall prevention by utilizing a risk assessment process that helps to quantify and manage tribometry with other contributing risk factors.

After the session, attendees will have obtained a holistic approach to slip and fall prevention by utilizing a risk assessment process that quantifies tribometry scores along with other slip and fall factors, as well as improve their slip and fall assessment skills by discussing real-life tribometer scenarios and successful mitigation strategies.

Note: This webinar is intended to provide a loss control perspective of the topic. Insurance coverage issues will not be covered during this webcast. If you have questions concerning coverage or insurability, please contact your insurance broker or underwriter.
